Doing your homework...
Will make for a more productive and collaborative creative experience when you meet with your faux finisher.

1. What is the scope of your project - one room, multiple rooms? On a large scale project be clear about your priorities.
2. What is your budget? Discuss your budget early in the process.
3. What is your time frame? Is there a dead line?
4. How will the space function: formal occasions, daily family use, retreat, etc?
5. What kind of environment do you want to create: formal, informal, period-specific, contemporary, etc?
6. Do you know what you want your room/house to feel like? A faux finisher specializes in painting. Having an interior designer help can make choosing the right finish so much easier.
7. What are your color preferences: primary or pastel, neutral or high contrast, bold or subtle, warm or cool?
8. Think about the possibility of personalization. Do you like borders, panels, random pieces? Do you have a favorite design like fleur de lis, flower or anything else you would like to see incorporated?
9. Don’t limit your thinking to walls only. Ceilings, floors, niches, glass and furniture are examples of other surfaces that can be faux finished.
10. Create a "dream file" that contains magazine pictures of faux finishes and rooms, color schemes that appeal to you. If your project involves a home under construction or remodeling of an existing space, have samples and photos of fabric, tile, countertop, flooring, cabinets, furniture and accessories. If adding a faux finish to an existing space have samples of fabric (swatch, pillow, etc), tile, etc (if possible) for the finisher to take back to the studio.
