- A representative portfolio. A portfolio should include sample boards of the finisher’s work and possibly photographs of jobs they have completed.
- Training. Has the finisher completed any training? How did the artist learn to faux finish?
- Professionalism. Find out what hours the finisher works. Does the artist come and go at their whim or does the finisher stay until the project is completed?
- Estimates. A finisher should provide you with a detailed estimate and a contract before beginning the job.
- Samples. Along with an estimate your finisher should provide you with a sample board of the work to be done. You may choose a finish directly from the finisher’s portfolio or the artist may create a custom sample board for you. Either way, make sure you share the vision of what the space is going to look like.
- Comfort. You need to feel comfortable with the person you will hire to work in your home.
- Professional Grade Materials. Your finisher should only use the highest quality materials designed specifically for professional faux finishing.
- References. Is the finisher willing to give you references?
